Knit // Cupcakes!

These cupcakes look fun to make and delicious to look at! The pattern is free at Lion Brand.

Book // Stories I Only Tell My Friends by Rob Lowe

As a huge fan of The West Wing and newly spurred interest in '80s film, this book has been intriguing me for quite a while. While I do always advocate for buying the actual book, I scurried away with the audio book, read by Rob himself. With his sincere translation and spot-on imitations of actors he has encountered over the years, this (audio)book does not fail to entertain.

Music // Tu Vuò Fà L'americano

I am in love with this song! Most are probably familiar with the dance remix that became popular, but the original is just classy and jazzy Euro-suave. My favorite version is actually the one by Dario Pinelli, but Darren Criss also does a great acoustic version if you're lucky enough to make it to one of his shows!

Etsy // tessaROXX Designs

I was recently introduced to Tessa Netting at the infamous LeakyCon. Among her many talents, she designs nails and awesome Harry Potter House Bow Ties at her Etsy shop.

Recipe // Herb Cubes

this is such a brilliant idea that I just had to share! Throw some herbs and olive oil in an ice cube tray. Then throw one in a pan when you need an extra pop! of flavor!

Giveaway // One Sheepish Girl

One Sheepish Girl is doing a giveaway on her blog for these adorable notecards!

Knit // Hansigurumi Knitting Patterns

These are my favorite Amigurumi patterns to knit and share! They range from simple to very challenging, and my go-to stress relievers. Check out her book.

Book // Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins

This is one of my favorite new books! While the title and topic may turn many people off, I found that this book is one of the most accurate depictions of boy/girl interactions in high school and college. It was so relatable and entertaining that I couldn't put it down!

Music // Allen Stone

I saw Allen Stone perform at a small concert in Western Washington, and I was blown away! His falsetto is ridiculous. Check him out.

Etsy // MyMimi Floppy Disk Pillow

I can't get enough of these adorable pillows from MyMimi! She offers a wide assortment of retro and foodie designs that are cuddly and cute!

Recipe // Bacon and Egg Breakfast Tarts

These delicious looking tarts make breakfast easy, delicious, and on-the-go!

Swap Attack!

So recently I've gotten super addicted to swaps on Ravelry. My first swap this summer was a mini Hair Accessory swap. I made a knitted bow clip and I received a cabled barrette. My second swap resulted in some lacy sock patterns, dpns, and yarn. I am currently working on a project with these that I will post the results of soon!
A couple of days ago though, this came in the mail:

The theme was "Scavenger Hunt" and we had to find items, like "Something Blue," "Something Local," and "Something Hard." Some stand out items in my box were a homemade bar of honey-chamomile soap, Shibui sock yarn, giant blue buttons, and a book of lace shawl patterns.

I went on a little adventure today to visit a yarn shop that I found online while I was bored a work. While the more well-known Spokane yarn provider is Paradise Fibers, there is a cute shop on South Grand Boulevard called A Grand Yarn. The ladies who work there are super sweet and they have a great selection of yarns! I needed some dpns for my new sock excursions, so I didn't splurge on a skein as well, but I know where I'll go first next time I start a project. I can't believe it took me four years to find it!

Back From Break

Sorry I have been a little AWOL the past couple of weeks. I went home to visit my parents and meet up with my sister, so that took up a lot of my time. It was really nice to spend some quality time with the fam. I tend to miss them :)

We took a long time to land in Oakland and flew all around the Bay, something I've never done before. It was cool to see the City from that angle.

I went to San Francisco a couple of times and hung out in some places I've never been before (only took me 15 years!). My mom and I went to the Mission district and found some really cute shops as well as a lot of street art and murals:

I recently moved and haven't completely finished unpacking, so knitting has taken a backseat for a while. However, I have some great swap stuff coming in and some new projects to start!

Quick Note

One Sheepish Girl is having an awesome giveaway on her blog! You should check it out!

Kate Date // Help, Mary Poppins!

One of my many quirks is going out and doing things by myself; my favorite of which is going to the movies, but plays often fall into that category too. I got a student rush ticket to see Mary Poppins at the local performing arts center.

I had two hours to kill before the show, so I went to our adorable downtown bookstore, Auntie's, and Atticus coffee shop.

I finally bought The Help and sat down to read on the sloping lawns in the park. It was such a beautiful evening to have some "me" time.

Owls and Felt Barrettes

If you don't already know, I'm a huge Harry Potter fan...to the point that it is what inspired me to learn HTML, become active on the internet, gain cool friends, stalk people I hardly know, etc. While being a Harry Potter fan is rather common, less common are the fans who listen to wizard wrock. Most wizard wrockers have branched out since, including Miss Lauren Fairweather (Maggiacomo), previously of the Moaning Myrtles. Today I got a nice little surprise in the mail curtesy of her:

These hand-sized owl plushies are Henry and Henrietta, and usually only available on her tour. However, at the end of last week she had a brief sale online, during which I snagged some :) She also makes large plushies in many designs that you can find at her shop. (She's on tour, but will be back soon!)

Recently I have put down my knitting needles and picked up a new project:

I am making these to sell in my Etsy shop and on Gumroad. (Check out the links on the right.)

The flowers will be up sometime today! I'm selling them for just $3.50 each, so check 'em out!

Until next time, Cheers!

Guf the Magic Kraken

Here he is! I named him Guf because the Icelandic word for Kraken is Hafgufa.

He is stuffed with poly-fil and has pipe cleaners in his tentacles to make them curve and easier to prop on top of things. The tentacles were all knit separately and then picked up and worked in the round. His eyes were knit separately and sewn on.

His fins were picked up along the decrease lines and knit one on each side. The pattern was adapted from Hansi Singh. I shall keep him for a while until he can find a proper home!

About Me!

I just finished 100 facts about myself for the "About Me" page. Check it out right here.

Dress Update!

I woke up yesterday at about 12:45, got breakfast, and went straight to the costume studio. I spent 8 straight hours there. How time flies when you are crafting!

I finally finished cutting and serging all of my material. That took quite a few hours in itself. I ironed on my interfacing and then got down to sewing. The bodice was easy enough and I'm just glad I have gathers and not pinch pleats...

I have always prided myself on my under stitching, which turned out very well in my opinion!

I kept saying "One more hour, one more hour..." until I reached step 17. I have to attach lining to a piece that already has fabric and two linings in the seam. I think I was too hungry to think and the pictures weren't making sense, so I gave up and closed up shop for the night. I'll attack it again in a day or two.

You Kraken Me Up!

It has been nice to spend the last couple of weeks alone in my room, watching TV shows and knitting. I have been jumping from project to project, but my latest endeavor is the Kraken. I just finished knitting all of the tentacles. Here they are joined together:

I should be finished with him in the next couple of days. The yarn I ordered was a little bit darker than I preferred, but I think it will give him and cute, yet ominous look. He has pipe cleaners in his tentacles, so he can be shaped and manipulated once he's completed. Can't wait to show off the finished product!

Reminiscing and SWAP!

I've been missing Europe, especially Roma, lately. It's such a beautiful place with amazing food! I recently found this photo I took at Campo dei Fiori because I thought these bags were so cute!

29250_1411244355284_7594716_n

I also am joining some Ravelry swaps! I have never done a swap before, but the idea is right up my alley and I'm really excited. I have signed up for two for the summer. I think I can do both as long as I have time to go shopping and knitting. I'll post updates once I've bought and received my things. :)

Olympics and Sewing

No, probably not the Olympics you were thinking. This past weekend, a friend and I took a road trip to her home on the Washington Peninsula. Home of this gorgeous stretch of mountains in Olympic National Park.

There was also a huge music and art festival in her town. That is where I discovered this guy:

allen-stone

Despite is appearance and nerdy yet charismatic stage presence, he has one of the best voices I've ever heard. He hits notes that I didn't even know a guy could hit! You can check him out right here.

Since I've returned from my adventure, I have been working on my dress. I have two weddings to go to in July, so I decided to put my craftiness to the test. After already four hours of work, I am still cutting!

Hopefully I can start sewing today!
