Owls and Felt Barrettes

If you don't already know, I'm a huge Harry Potter fan...to the point that it is what inspired me to learn HTML, become active on the internet, gain cool friends, stalk people I hardly know, etc. While being a Harry Potter fan is rather common, less common are the fans who listen to wizard wrock. Most wizard wrockers have branched out since, including Miss Lauren Fairweather (Maggiacomo), previously of the Moaning Myrtles. Today I got a nice little surprise in the mail curtesy of her:

These hand-sized owl plushies are Henry and Henrietta, and usually only available on her tour. However, at the end of last week she had a brief sale online, during which I snagged some :) She also makes large plushies in many designs that you can find at her shop. (She's on tour, but will be back soon!)

Recently I have put down my knitting needles and picked up a new project:

I am making these to sell in my Etsy shop and on Gumroad. (Check out the links on the right.)

The flowers will be up sometime today! I'm selling them for just $3.50 each, so check 'em out!

Until next time, Cheers!

Guf the Magic Kraken

Here he is! I named him Guf because the Icelandic word for Kraken is Hafgufa.

He is stuffed with poly-fil and has pipe cleaners in his tentacles to make them curve and easier to prop on top of things. The tentacles were all knit separately and then picked up and worked in the round. His eyes were knit separately and sewn on.

His fins were picked up along the decrease lines and knit one on each side. The pattern was adapted from Hansi Singh. I shall keep him for a while until he can find a proper home!

Dress Update!

I woke up yesterday at about 12:45, got breakfast, and went straight to the costume studio. I spent 8 straight hours there. How time flies when you are crafting!

I finally finished cutting and serging all of my material. That took quite a few hours in itself. I ironed on my interfacing and then got down to sewing. The bodice was easy enough and I'm just glad I have gathers and not pinch pleats...

I have always prided myself on my under stitching, which turned out very well in my opinion!

I kept saying "One more hour, one more hour..." until I reached step 17. I have to attach lining to a piece that already has fabric and two linings in the seam. I think I was too hungry to think and the pictures weren't making sense, so I gave up and closed up shop for the night. I'll attack it again in a day or two.

Olympics and Sewing

No, probably not the Olympics you were thinking. This past weekend, a friend and I took a road trip to her home on the Washington Peninsula. Home of this gorgeous stretch of mountains in Olympic National Park.

There was also a huge music and art festival in her town. That is where I discovered this guy:

Despite is appearance and nerdy yet charismatic stage presence, he has one of the best voices I've ever heard. He hits notes that I didn't even know a guy could hit! You can check him out right here.

Since I've returned from my adventure, I have been working on my dress. I have two weddings to go to in July, so I decided to put my craftiness to the test. After already four hours of work, I am still cutting!

Hopefully I can start sewing today!

I'd prefer if my water wasn't pink

Just another ho hum day......

Went to HSNV this morning, and a surprising sight! Nearly no cars in the parking lot and only one person in the gym! (Doesn't say much for the crowded pool my mom had to swim in...) One of my favorite things there, tho, is their citrus-cucumber water (not being a huge fan of regular water myself). However, the past few days, despite the lovely flavor, they have been substituting regular oranges with blood oranges, turning the water pink! Little too girly for my taste...

Finally cleared enough room on my spare bed to fit my suitcase:

Also, after many fruitless attempts, I finally got Ravelry progress bars in the right sidebar! The cute gloves I have there now are my belated Xmas present to my mom. I am going to be putting the pattern up free on Ravelry soon. This is the wonderful wool I found to make the flowers.

Hand-dyed yarn

Hopefully they'll be done before I take off!

Countdown: 9 Days
