Swap Attack!

So recently I've gotten super addicted to swaps on Ravelry. My first swap this summer was a mini Hair Accessory swap. I made a knitted bow clip and I received a cabled barrette. My second swap resulted in some lacy sock patterns, dpns, and yarn. I am currently working on a project with these that I will post the results of soon!
A couple of days ago though, this came in the mail:

The theme was "Scavenger Hunt" and we had to find items, like "Something Blue," "Something Local," and "Something Hard." Some stand out items in my box were a homemade bar of honey-chamomile soap, Shibui sock yarn, giant blue buttons, and a book of lace shawl patterns.

I went on a little adventure today to visit a yarn shop that I found online while I was bored a work. While the more well-known Spokane yarn provider is Paradise Fibers, there is a cute shop on South Grand Boulevard called A Grand Yarn. The ladies who work there are super sweet and they have a great selection of yarns! I needed some dpns for my new sock excursions, so I didn't splurge on a skein as well, but I know where I'll go first next time I start a project. I can't believe it took me four years to find it!

Guf the Magic Kraken

Here he is! I named him Guf because the Icelandic word for Kraken is Hafgufa.

He is stuffed with poly-fil and has pipe cleaners in his tentacles to make them curve and easier to prop on top of things. The tentacles were all knit separately and then picked up and worked in the round. His eyes were knit separately and sewn on.

His fins were picked up along the decrease lines and knit one on each side. The pattern was adapted from Hansi Singh. I shall keep him for a while until he can find a proper home!

You Kraken Me Up!

It has been nice to spend the last couple of weeks alone in my room, watching TV shows and knitting. I have been jumping from project to project, but my latest endeavor is the Kraken. I just finished knitting all of the tentacles. Here they are joined together:

I should be finished with him in the next couple of days. The yarn I ordered was a little bit darker than I preferred, but I think it will give him and cute, yet ominous look. He has pipe cleaners in his tentacles, so he can be shaped and manipulated once he's completed. Can't wait to show off the finished product!

I'd prefer if my water wasn't pink

Just another ho hum day......

Went to HSNV this morning, and a surprising sight! Nearly no cars in the parking lot and only one person in the gym! (Doesn't say much for the crowded pool my mom had to swim in...) One of my favorite things there, tho, is their citrus-cucumber water (not being a huge fan of regular water myself). However, the past few days, despite the lovely flavor, they have been substituting regular oranges with blood oranges, turning the water pink! Little too girly for my taste...

Finally cleared enough room on my spare bed to fit my suitcase:

Also, after many fruitless attempts, I finally got Ravelry progress bars in the right sidebar! The cute gloves I have there now are my belated Xmas present to my mom. I am going to be putting the pattern up free on Ravelry soon. This is the wonderful wool I found to make the flowers.

Hand-dyed yarn

Hopefully they'll be done before I take off!

Countdown: 9 Days
